WEAKNESS
Love it is a weakness
A cold and bitter ruse
Like holding on to dynamite
And lightin' up the fuse
All my life I've known it
Unfortunately it's true
Everyone has shown me
That love equals abuse
They twist it and contort it
Into something that it's not
And in the end they use it
To take everything you got
Love's a sharpened arrow
Of half-truths and deceit
Wrapped up in broken promises
And words that aren't so sweet
It's tiptoeing round on eggshells
Cuz everything's your fault
Even when you know deep down
That's not the truth at all
It's whispered words of violence
That sends chills right down your spine
"Don't bother callin' the law"
"They won't get here in time"
It's making up excuses
When he makes the bruises show
And not leavin' the house
So nobody will know
It's thinkin you were faithful
And findin out you weren't
And drownin' it in fentanyl
Just so it won't hurt
It's cold and lonely nights
Wondering where you're at
At the same time I am dreading,
The moment you get back
It's the crazy way he makes you
Doubt every situation
By insisting that you're wrong,
"It's just your imagination"
It's all of your beliefs
Stripped right down to the core
When you're lookin' in the mirrors
You don't see you anymore
It's being isolated
So far from everyone
And knowing what he'll do to you
If you try to run
It's not supposed to break you
Or keep you on your knees
It's not supposed to crush your soul
Or make you want to leave
Why love makes this happen
I really can't explain
But what I know
Is when it's over
Nothing is the same
No I'm not an expert
On this by any means
Maybe someday I'll figure out
What love's supposed to be
